Good Morning Year 1, please see below the activities we would like you to do today. Remember you can take photos (if you have made, shown or drawn something) or use your exercise book to write any sentences or complete any number sentences.

We hope you have fun!

English

LO:  I can say a sentence before writing it.  

Activity:

Tomorrow we would like you to write a letter to your new teacher to introduce yourself. Today we need to make a plan. We would like you to create a spider diagram with your name in the middle. We would like you to write around it all the things that make you, you! This could be your pet’s, family, favourite book, movie, colour. What you like to learn about at school. What you are looking forward to in Year 2?

Remember we are not writing the letter today; we are just creating a plan! You can include key words, phrases, ideas etc.

Maths

LO: I can solve missing number problems.

Activity

 We spent a lot of time practising our adding and taking away when we were at school. We learnt lots of different ways to help us to solve the problems. Today some of the numbers have disappeared from the number sentences and we would like you to solve which numbers are missing. Remember to look carefully at the numbers you do have to help you consider which method might help you the most to solve the problems. You may want to use your fingers to support you, you may count on or back in your head or you may want to use some manipulatives to support you. Here is an example of one way we have used at school in the past.

E.g.

12 - ____      = 10    You might want to draw your tens frames and leave 10 counters to see how many are left over. I have crossed out 2 to leave 10 so I know that 12 – 2 = 10

Have a look at the attached sheet to see if you can solve all of the missing number problems. Remember to look carefully at the symbol to make sure you are counting in the right direction!

LO: I can design a purposeful and functional product.

Activity:

After completing your research yesterday about what was on show at the Great Exhibition all those years ago, you can see how old some means of transport are! However it is clear to see that some of these modes of transport have been adapted and changed over the years to work better for those who need to use it e.g. size, storage, power etc.

Today we would like you to see if you can design your own means of transport! Think about where it will travel; perhaps on the road, in the air, or the sea, or even perhaps all three!! Will there be any room for storage? How will it be powered? Can you draw a picture of your new transport and label it giving a few explanations of its key features? We can’t wait to see them!
